Because I'm reviewing a RWD 2014 Equus this week. Not that AWD would help much on ice, but I'd be a bit less inclined to pirouette off the road into a ditch. Oh yeah, we're getting our first snow tomorrow, reportedly.

How does it compare to the Neon?

Free Equus to review, gets ice. #firstworldproblem

Just kidding, keep it between the ditches and let us know how it goes.

What's the point of repeating what I originally wrote? I think we're clear on the "AWD won't help on ice" part..

And I just failed

That's not a Neon. It's a cleverly disgused LaFerrari waiting for the coming snow to pass. It's how Maranello outwits the auto press nowadays..

You may note that pretty much EVERYONE used to drive rear wheel drive shit in the winter. And they did it with shitty tire technology and a complete lack of fancy shit like ABS and stability nannies. Just drive the damn car like you know what your doing and call it a day.
Your grandpa did it. Your grandma did it. You will too.

I'd actually disagree with you in regards to tires. While tires now days are way way way better than the used to be, they're also much more specialized for on asphalt performance. The G's you can pull in a modern car in ideal conditions are incredible compared to a car 30 years ago. But the better they are in the dry, the worse they are in the snow. Add to this a predilection for low profile, but wide tires and you have the recipie for a tire that's about as unideal for the snow as is possible.
And how much of a factor are tires when it comes to driving in the snow? Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.
That said, SNOW tires now days are much better than they were back in the day. But your average all season? or god forbid summer tire? Trust me when I say neither me nor my grandma could make it up a 3 percent grade in my car with an inch of snow on the ground.
